Ingredients
- For the Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
- 1 egg + 1 tsp water for egg wash
- For the Cream Cheese Filling
- 4 oz 113g cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- For the Strawberry Topping
- ⅓ cup strawberry jam
- 4-5 fresh strawberries sliced
- For Garnish Optional
- powdered sugar
- Honey or melted apricot jam for a glaze
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut Heart Shapes: Unroll the puff pastry and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or a knife) to cut out 6-8 hearts. For half of the hearts, cut a smaller heart out of the center to create a border.
- Assemble the Danishes: Place the whole hearts on the baking sheet. Brush the edges with egg wash, then place the heart borders on top. Lightly press down to help them stick together.
- Add the Fillings: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Spread about 1 tbsp of cream cheese filling in the center of each heart. Spoon 1-2 tsp of strawberry jam on top of the cream cheese.
- Bake: Brush the edges with egg wash. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Finish & Serve: Top with fresh strawberry slices. Optionally, brush with melted apricot jam or honey for shine.Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
